Dark Field Lighting Photography
Dark field lighting photography is a special lighting technique that "cheats the sun" to create stunning images. The art of the craft is to capture the photo image with camera set up and not rely on the post-process finishing software (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.). First, camera settings remove the ambient day light. Next, a point-source external flash illuminates the subject with fast shadow fall off to create a dark field behind the subject.
IMPORTANT: Horses are large animals and can be dangerous when spooked. Similar to umbrellas or bubble wrap, horses need to be desensitized to the camera strobe flash before equestrian photography.
Experienced horse handlers are also an important consideration. Fortunately for our clients, both Julia and Joe are professional photographers and equestrians. We have dozens of years experience owning/riding horses and barn management.
We look forward to creating your dark field lighting image, whether it is a traditional wall portrait, metallic print, canvas wrap, photo album or digital collection.
